About the position

The Human Resources Generalist position at UGSC (USA) and UG Mexico is a permanent role based in Hollister, California. This position is responsible for coordinating the administration of various human resources activities in compliance with federal and state regulations. Reporting to the Director of Employee Benefits & Wellness, the HR Generalist will manage a wide range of HR functions including employment, compensation, payroll, benefits, training, record keeping, safety, and employee services. The role requires a proactive approach to ensure that all HR processes are executed efficiently and effectively, fostering a positive work environment for all employees. In this role, the HR Generalist will be the first point of contact for applicants and employees, addressing frequently asked questions regarding policies, benefits, and hiring processes. They will coordinate full-cycle recruitment, administer job postings, and drive the interview process to attract the best candidates. Additionally, the HR Generalist will conduct new employee orientations and training sessions to ensure a clear understanding of company policies and to promote a positive attitude towards the organization. The position also involves supporting contract labor onboarding, administering annual incentive programs, and assisting in the management of the benefits program. This includes maintaining records of insurance coverage, coordinating open enrollments, and conducting monthly benefit reconciliations. The HR Generalist will prepare employee separation notices, conduct exit interviews, and communicate personnel changes to relevant parties. Legal compliance is a critical aspect of this role, as the HR Generalist will monitor and implement applicable federal and state human resource requirements. They will process payroll bi-weekly and semi-monthly, ensuring accuracy and compliance with wage and hour laws. Safety coordination across multiple sites is also a key responsibility, including managing workers' compensation claims and providing health and safety training for employees. The HR Generalist will maintain accurate human resource files and documentation, assist with company event planning, and perform any other duties as assigned. This position requires a strong commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and the ability to manage sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.

Responsibilities

  • Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees regarding standard policies, benefits, and hiring processes.
  • Coordinates full-cycle recruitment, administers job postings, and drives the interview process.
  • Plans and conducts new employee orientation and training to foster understanding of policies.
  • Supports contract labor onboarding in coordination with Department Managers.
  • Assists in the administration of the benefit program and maintains records of insurance coverage.
  • Coordinates open enrollments and administers monthly benefit reconciliations.
  • Prepares employee separation notices and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
  • Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements.
  • Processes bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll and reviews payroll preview reports for accuracy.
  • Coordinates safety activities across multiple sites and manages workers' compensation claims.
  • Provides and coordinates training in health and safety for employees, contractors, and management.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation.
  • Assists with company event planning, including ordering meals and rental equipment.
  • Performs any other duties assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of related human resources, payroll, and benefit administration experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism.
  • Ability to work under pressure and communicate with all levels of personnel.
  • Strong math, reading, writing, and computer skills.
  • Proficient with or ability to quickly learn human resource information systems (HRIS).
