About the position

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Human Resources Generalist to join our team at our large distribution center in Portland, Oregon. The HR Generalist will play a key role in supporting our employees and management by handling various HR functions, including employee relations, FMLA administration, recruiting, compensation compliance, and conducting investigations. This position requires a strong understanding of HR practices, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. In the realm of employee relations, the HR Generalist will serve as the first point of contact for employee inquiries and concerns, providing guidance and support to employees and managers on HR policies, procedures, and practices. They will assist in resolving workplace conflicts and disputes, ensuring a positive work environment, and facilitating employee engagement initiatives to support retention strategies. The role also encompasses FMLA and leave administration, where the HR Generalist will manage the administration of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and other leave programs, working with employees to process leave requests while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. Maintaining accurate records of leave requests, approvals, and return-to-work plans is essential. Investigations are another critical aspect of this position, as the HR Generalist will conduct thorough and impartial investigations into employee complaints, including issues related to harassment, discrimination, and policy violations. They will document findings, prepare reports, and provide recommendations for resolution, collaborating with management and legal counsel as necessary to ensure fair and consistent outcomes. Ensuring HR compliance is vital, as the HR Generalist will assist in the development, implementation, and communication of HR policies and procedures while maintaining and updating employee files and HR systems with accurate and confidential information. Additionally, they will prepare and analyze HR reports related to employee relations, leave management, and other HR metrics, using data to identify trends and make recommendations for improvements in HR processes. The HR Generalist will also support special HR projects and initiatives as needed and collaborate with other HR team members to ensure the overall effectiveness of the HR function.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a Human Resources role, preferably within a large distribution or manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of HR laws and regulations, including FMLA, ADA, and other federal/state employment laws.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification is preferred but not required.
