About the position

Empire State University is seeking a Human Resource Generalist to join the Office of Human Resources in Saratoga Springs, NY. This role is pivotal in supporting the HR team in various functions, including benefits administration, recruitment, and university-wide initiatives. The Human Resource Generalist will be responsible for managing the full cycle of the employee recruitment process, which encompasses reviewing search requisitions, posting job openings, guiding hiring managers and search committees, and communicating with applicants throughout the process. The selected candidate will also be tasked with closing out the search process effectively. In addition to recruitment, the Human Resource Generalist will collaborate with the Title IX and Affirmative Action Officer and the Chief Diversity Officer to ensure that recruitment policies and procedures promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. This includes ongoing reviews and revisions of recruitment policies to comply with college, federal, New York State, and SUNY guidelines. The role will also involve supporting benefits administration, performance management, and payroll operations as needed, as well as coordinating and tracking university-wide HR mandated training. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and accuracy, possess excellent independent judgment, and maintain confidentiality in all HR matters. Building strong working relationships with individuals at all organizational levels is essential, as is the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong analytical and decision-making skills, along with a commitment to quality and customer service, are critical for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full cycle of employee recruitment process including reviewing search requisitions, posting jobs, guiding hiring managers and search committees, reviewing search materials, communication with applicants and closing out the search process.
  • Partner with the Title IX and Affirmative Action Officer and the Chief Diversity Officer in ongoing review of recruitment policy development and search committee procedures to ensure a continued promotion of diversity, equity and inclusion through recruitment, search and hiring practices.
  • Ongoing review and revision of recruitment policies and procedures to ensure compliance with college, federal, NYS and SUNY guidelines.
  • Support benefits administration, performance management and payroll operations, as needed.
  • Coordinate, monitor and track university-wide HR mandated training.
  • Assist OHR staff with university-wide initiatives and communication.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 2 years' experience in Human Resources; OR a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management or a closely related field.
  • Ability to maintain confidential/sensitive information.
  • Strong analytical, computer, problem-solving and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and web-based systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience working within SUNY or a higher education setting.
  • Prior experience working in or with a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal employment regulations and laws.

Benefits

  • Salary starting at $55,000+, dependent on experience and qualifications.
