About the position

The Human Resources Generalist at Fortune Society Inc. plays a crucial role in fostering a high-performance culture that emphasizes employee empowerment, quality, productivity, and ongoing development. This position is integral to the Human Resources team, supporting and delivering a wide range of HR services, including payroll management, HRIS operations, and recruitment and retention strategies. The Generalist will be responsible for ensuring that HR practices align with the organization's objectives and contribute to a positive employee experience. In this role, the Human Resources Generalist will troubleshoot time and attendance issues, audit timecards for over 500 employees, and collaborate with the Payroll Manager to ensure accurate bi-weekly payroll processing. The Generalist will also address employee inquiries regarding timesheets, payroll, and HRIS issues, ensuring compliance with legal documentation such as I-9 forms and maintaining accurate employee records in the HRIS system. Additionally, the Generalist will handle garnishments, child support, and tax levies, serving as the primary contact for payroll-related questions. The position requires a proactive approach to customer service, producing reports on recruitment and other HR functions as needed, and assisting with HR-related audits. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, knowledge of federal and state labor laws, and the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels of the organization. Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot time & attendance timecard errors and audit timecards prior to import into payroll system for 500+ employees.
  • Work with the Payroll Manager to ensure bi-weekly payroll is correct on the HR side.
  • Review electronic timekeeping system and address errors.
  • Assist employees and managers on timesheet questions, payroll questions, and HRIS issues.
  • Review I-9 documentation to ensure legal compliance and create new hire profiles using ATS system.
  • Maintain employee personnel files to ensure legal compliance and maintain accurate records in the HRIS system.
  • Process garnishments, child support, and tax levies, including communicating with employees.
  • Process all salary and position changes in the HRIS system, including sending notifications of salary changes to employees.
  • Ensure all Federal, State, and Local taxes are properly deducted from employees' compensation.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for answering employee questions about payroll and personnel forms.
  • Perform customer service functions by providing first line of support to employees and managers.
  • Produce reports on recruitment and other HR functions upon request.
  • Assist in HR-related audit requests and run reports as requested.
  • Support the department by completing additional tasks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required; HSE required.
  • 3-5 years relevant human resources experience.
  • Knowledge of human resources functions, employee relations, and HRIS.
  • Paycom experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of federal and state labor laws and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with employees from Sr. Management to frontline.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive issues with diplomacy and discretion.
  • Must be able to multitask with strong organizational skills.
  • PC proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to communicate verbally and in written form.
  • A high energy level, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and resourceful.
  • Ability to prioritize with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Good self-direction skills, the ability to problem solve, and the ability to work on a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Paycom or similar HRIS systems.
