About the position

The WCRA is an established nonprofit reinsurance company located in Saint Paul, MN, with a dedicated staff of thirty. We are currently seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our team. This position is essential for managing various HR functions, including interviewing and hiring staff, administering payroll and benefits, and enforcing company policies and practices. The role is hybrid, requiring three days in the office and two days of telecommuting, allowing for a balance between in-person collaboration and remote work flexibility. As a Human Resources Generalist, you will serve as the primary point of contact for general employee issues, providing collaboration, coaching, and support for employee concerns. You will oversee employee payroll by verifying biweekly processing and conducting monthly and annual reconciliations to ensure data accuracy. Additionally, you will be responsible for reviewing, tracking, and documenting compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. You will partner with department management to support all processes within the employee lifecycle, ensuring compliance with HR policies and procedures, including recruitment, compensation, performance management, and staff development. Your role will also involve performing routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs, handling employment-related inquiries, and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. You will be expected to stay updated on trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law, while also maintaining the Association's job description database and HR system records.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact for general employee issues, collaboration, coaching, and concerns.
  • Oversee employee payroll by verifying biweekly processing and conducting monthly and annual reconciliations.
  • Review, track, and document compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments.
  • Partner with department management to support all processes within the employee lifecycle, ensuring compliance with HR policies and procedures.
  • Perform routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs, including compensation, benefits, and leave.
  • Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex matters to appropriate staff.
  • Attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; recommend best practices and review policies.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources and employment law.
  • Maintain the Association's job description database, HR system records, training database, and other HR systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 4 - 6 years of human resource experience, with at least 2 - 3 years as a generalist.
  • SHRM-CP certification is a plus.
  • Strong verbal, written, and active listening skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Self-starter with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS and talent management systems.
