You will assist the site HR leader in maintaining a positive labor relations environment, facilitating workplace investigations, and ensuring compliance with HR policies and procedures. Your contributions will directly impact employee retention and satisfaction, as you will be responsible for managing various HR functions, including data entry, job bidding processes, and employee inquiries. In this role, you will collect and analyze HR data to provide insights and recommendations to the HR leader regarding workforce planning. You will also support the development and execution of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, as well as the Affirmative Action Plan. Your ability to communicate effectively and build strong relationships with employees will be essential as you serve as a visible business partner on the production floor. You will assist in preparing for compliance audits and maintain accurate records in the Human Resource Information System (HRIS). Additionally, you will collaborate with Talent Acquisition to manage job requisitions and ensure compliance with employment regulations. Responsibilities

  • Assist the site HR leader in strategically driving the success of the HR department.
  • Maintain a positive labor/employee relations environment for the affected business unit.
  • Facilitate workplace investigations or other inquiries arising from employee needs or policy infractions.
  • Ensure hourly production employee retention is maintained at an acceptable level.
  • Communicate and demonstrate Smithfield's ROI guiding principles.
  • Collect and analyze HR data and make recommendations to the site HR leader.
  • Conduct orientation and support on-the-job training initiatives.
  • Assist in the maintenance and execution of DE&I initiatives and Affirmative Action Plan.
  • Provide resources to empower employees with necessary knowledge and materials.
  • Assist in providing position and performance guidance based on HR policies and procedures.
  • Provide direction/leadership to junior staff in servicing employee needs.
  • Actively listen and provide constructive feedback, recognition, and gratitude.
  • Serve as a visible business partner, engaging employees at all levels.
  • Assist in the preparation and oversight of HR-related compliance audits.
  • Maintain HRIS records and compile reports from the database.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to create and manage requisition creations.
  • Assist with job fairs, training workshops, labor relations, and payroll processing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or related field.
  • 2+ years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of employment law practices.
  • Experience in administration of benefits, compensation, and other programs.
  • Knowledge and use of commonly used HRIS such as Workday and payroll/timekeeping systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Must be respectful, approachable, and team-oriented.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous Workday/HCM system experience preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or another language preferred.
