About the position

The Field HR Generalist at HMSHost is a vital role responsible for supporting the effective administration of HR policies and procedures across one or multiple branches. This position serves as a bridge between strategic and tactical HR functions, ensuring that initiatives and processes are executed efficiently. The Generalist will utilize their judgment and discretion to provide problem-solving advice and counsel to the Director of Operations/Senior Director of Operations, operations management, and branch staff, while also escalating HR issues as necessary. The role requires a thorough understanding of administrative processes and procedures, which the Generalist will ensure are carried out effectively. Additionally, the Generalist will lead branch or area-level projects and may participate as a team member on regional HR projects. They will also assist in developing policies and procedures tailored to the branch and share best practices with Generalists at other branches. This exempt position reports to the HR Manager or Regional HR Director, depending on local requirements. In this role, the Generalist will establish and maintain a position of trusted adviser to all operations managers, partnering with the HR Manager to foster a positive and visible HR presence within the branch. They will identify trends and regularly communicate branch-level issues with the HR Manager, collaborating with operations managers to provide daily advice on employee discipline, performance management, retention, engagement, rewards, and recognition. The Generalist will maintain in-depth technical knowledge of HR best practices, federal, state, and local regulations, and company HR policies, ensuring these are fully considered in HR decision-making. They will conduct confidential HR counseling, investigations, and exit interviews, while also gathering and analyzing operational data and HR metrics to forecast and plan for staffing needs. The Generalist will work closely with regional HR staff to proactively source, recruit, screen, interview, offer, hire, and orient new candidates. They will develop and maintain relationships with community-based organizations to enhance the applicant pool and will be responsible for delivering new hire orientation and required policy training. Understanding airport and landlord policies and procedures is crucial, as the Generalist will partner with operations to ensure compliance. They will respond to associate inquiries regarding compensation, leave, scheduling, assignments, complaints, policies, and the full-cycle onboarding process. General HR functions will also be performed, including employee file maintenance, preparation of logs, and data entry and maintenance in PeopleSoft systems.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Requires a 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Requires a minimum of 3-5 years of HR Recruiting or related HR Generalist experience.
  • Knowledge to earn SHRM certification is preferred.
  • Ability to speak, read, and comprehend instructions and policy documents.
  • Leadership skills and ability to work as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of HR technical subjects.
  • Proficiency with HR and business software/systems, including document and spreadsheet preparation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with PeopleSoft systems is a plus.
  • Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and union practices.
