About the position

The Human Resources Generalist position at Legrand is a multifaceted role that encompasses a wide range of responsibilities within the Human Resources department. This position is pivotal in supporting various HR initiatives and functions, including employee relations, health and safety, recruitment and staffing, performance management, training, policy and procedure development, recordkeeping, compliance, and HRIS workflow administration. The HR Generalist will serve as a positive advocate for the HR team and its programs, ensuring that all HR-related policies and procedures are effectively communicated and implemented throughout the organization. In this role, the HR Generalist will provide exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders, including employees, managers, vendors, and business partners. This involves addressing a variety of HR-related inquiries and concerns, ranging from employee relations and career development to benefits and company culture. The HR Generalist will also act as a liaison between manufacturing facilities and Corporate HR, facilitating communication and ensuring that all parties are informed about ongoing initiatives and issues. The position requires a proactive approach to health and safety administration, including understanding workplace hazards and managing employee work restrictions. The HR Generalist will also be responsible for benefits administration, ensuring that programs such as medical, dental, life, and disability insurance are effectively managed and communicated to employees. Additionally, the role involves staffing and talent management, where the HR Generalist will oversee the new hire process, manage temporary employee placements, and support recruitment efforts. Employee relations and performance management are critical components of this role, as the HR Generalist will coach managers on resolving employee issues, maintain accurate records, and analyze feedback to recommend improvements. Leadership and project management responsibilities will also be part of the job, including reviewing HR practices and supporting departmental goals and initiatives. Overall, the HR Generalist will play a key role in fostering a positive workplace culture and ensuring compliance with employment regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate for the Company's Human Resources team and related programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide customer service to internal and external customers regarding HR-related questions.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with employees and managers at all levels.
  • Act as a liaison between manufacturing facilities and Corporate HR staff.
  • Escalate unusual or complicated issues to the Manager-Human Resources.
  • Administer benefits programs such as medical, dental, life, and disability insurance.
  • Assist with the annual benefit open enrollment process.
  • Understand workplace hazards and report injuries; cooperate in Safety Programs.
  • Manage employee work restrictions and maintain workers' compensation files.
  • Process new hires, terminations, and change notices accurately.
  • Conduct new-employee orientations and coordinate required training.
  • Manage temporary employee placement activities and vendor relationships.
  • Support the administration of an effective recruitment program.
  • Coach supervisors and managers on employee relations issues.
  • Respond to employee relations issues and maintain accurate records.
  • Communicate HR policies and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Conduct exit interviews and analyze feedback trends.
  • Review and recommend changes in HR practices and programs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of department goals and metrics.
  • Participate in committees and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive Human Resources generalist experience.
  • Proven knowledge of HR practices, principles, and applicable laws.
  • Experience with HRIS/Payroll system maintenance.
  • Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong decision-making skills within established guidelines.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  • Analytical ability to develop and maintain HR metrics.
  • Project management and planning skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task and support several projects simultaneously.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • High degree of professionalism and confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional or Senior Professional in Human Resources certification (PHR/SPHR and/or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP).
  • Safety team experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Multi-site/multi-state (international) experience.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish/English).
