About the position

The Human Resources Generalist at Turtle & Hughes Inc. will play a vital role in the administration of the Human Resources Department. This position is designed for an experienced HR professional who will assist in various HR and administrative activities, including pre-employment screening, onboarding, and maintaining the HR-specific ADP database. The Generalist will ensure compliance with company policies and applicable state and federal regulations while providing general support to employees. The role also involves assisting in the research, development, and implementation of new or revised HR programs, as well as managing existing programs in coordination with ADP Comprehensive Services. In this position, the HR Generalist will be responsible for organizing and maintaining employee files according to company policy and retention requirements. They will handle the onboarding and off-boarding processes, including processing new hire and termination paperwork, conducting orientations, and providing necessary training. The Generalist will also maintain office bulletin boards with pertinent company information and ensure compliance with state and federal posting requirements. Additionally, they will serve as a liaison between management and employees, addressing questions and resolving work-related conflicts in a timely manner. The HR Generalist will work closely with the Human Resources Manager to ensure compliance with HR processes and assist with various company initiatives. They will coordinate unemployment insurance claims, assist with employee benefit programs, and support the performance evaluation process. The role also includes responsibilities for annual reporting, job requisition processes, exit interviews, and turnover analysis. The HR Generalist will generate regular and ad hoc HRIS reports, including headcount, new hire, termination, and employee turnover reports.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and maintains employee files in accordance with company policy.
  • Responsible for onboarding and offboarding employees, including processing all new hire/termination paperwork and providing basic orientation.
  • Maintains office bulletin boards to provide employees with pertinent company and facility information and updates.
  • Provides prospective and current employees with information regarding policies and procedures, job duties, health benefits, time off requests, opportunities for promotion, and general work expectations.
  • Provides support to the field with the progressive discipline process.
  • Works closely with the Human Resources Manager to ensure compliance with HR processes, procedures, and policies, and assists with company initiatives and new programs.
  • Assists with coordinating unemployment insurance claims and hearings.
  • Serves as a liaison between management and employees by handling questions and helping to resolve work-related conflicts in a timely and fair manner.
  • Assists the Human Resources Manager with the administration, coordination, and development of employee benefit programs, such as group health, 401(k), and voluntary benefit programs.
  • Assists with the performance evaluation process and works with managers and employees to address performance issues.
  • Assists with the annual Open Enrollment process and assists with the communication materials for all employees.
  • Assists with reporting and annual EEO-1 reporting.
  • Provides back-up to the job posting and job requisition process.
  • Assists in new employee orientation and welcoming new employees to Turtle & Hughes.
  • Assists with the exit interview process and turnover analysis.
  • Supports the administration of Turtle & Hughes Philanthropic initiatives.
  • Completes employment verifications and I-9 verifications.
  • Determines FMLA eligibility, sends paperwork, and tracks employees on leave.
  • Reviews monthly invoices for drug tests and backgrounds.
  • Coordinates the random and quarterly DOT drug testing process.
  • Generates HRIS reports on a regular and ad hoc basis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in HR.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of federal and state employment law and regulations.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Excellent time management skills and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to gather and present data to leadership in a clear and concise manner.
  • Experience working with ADP/Workforce Now.
  • Experience with ADP Comprehensive Services is a plus.
  • Experience working in a multi-location environment.
  • Strong understanding of labor laws and regulations.
  • Experience with collective bargaining agreements.
  • HR certification preferred (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR).
