About the position

The Human Resources Generalist at Northeast Paving plays a crucial role in supporting the day-to-day HR needs of the organization. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities including HRIS Data Administration, hiring and onboarding of new team members, maintaining employment and training records, and ensuring compliance with state and federal DOT and EEO reporting requirements. The HR Generalist will work closely with both HR and Safety teams to manage employee matters and ensure adherence to employment laws and regulations. In this role, the HR Generalist will collaborate with existing HR teams to support company operations, assist in managing and documenting employee matters, and facilitate HR initiatives that align with the company's objectives. The position requires monitoring state and federal employment laws, escalating any changes or concerns to the HR Manager. Additionally, the HR Generalist will maintain and update personnel records and HRIS system data, assist with the hiring and onboarding process for new salaried team members, and manage unemployment claims through the Equifax Administration portal. The HR Generalist will also be responsible for preparing and facilitating the annual appraisal process in collaboration with managers, compiling and reviewing HR statistics and trends, and partnering with management to coordinate various training programs. This includes preparing and delivering HR training sessions, such as bi-annual EEO/Anti-Harassment training and general HR regulatory training. Furthermore, the HR Generalist will assist in organizing professional development workshops and ensure compliance with regulatory audits by compiling necessary data and preparing for various state and federal audits.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with existing HR teams to support company operations.
  • Assist in managing, documenting, and closing various employee matters.
  • Organize and facilitate HR initiatives in alignment with group objectives.
  • Monitor state and federal employment laws; escalate changes or concerns to HR Manager.
  • Maintain and update Personnel Records and HRIS System Data Administration.
  • Assist with the Hiring and Onboarding of new salaried team members, including drafting offer letters and follow-up communications.
  • Facilitate employee changes such as terminations, promotions, and wage adjustments in coordination with managers/supervisors.
  • Manage Unemployment Claims through the Equifax Administration portal; prepare responses and facilitate hearings.
  • Prepare and facilitate the annual Appraisal Process in collaboration with managers.
  • Compile and review HR statistics and trends.
  • Partner with management to coordinate and deliver various training programs.
  • Collect and analyze employee feedback to support continuous improvement.
  • Complete Employee Verifications and conduct Employee Surveys, including Stay and Exit Interviews; prepare management summaries of findings.
  • Assist with Immigration Processing and Administration.
  • Prepare and deliver various HR Training sessions, including Bi-Annual EEO/Anti-Harassment Training and General HR regulatory training.
  • Collaborate with Supervisors and/or Managers to develop Development Plans for identified individuals.
  • Assist in organizing Professional Development Workshops in conjunction with the Director of Training and Development.
  • Compile data for reporting, including PR1391/EEO-1 Report and Vets-100 Report.
  • Prepare for various State and Federal Regulatory Audits, including Dept. of Transportation, Dept. of Labor, and/or OFCCP audits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, a related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • 5-10 years of progressive HR experience with a strong focus on employee relations and compliance.
  • Experience in Construction or Manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide efficient, professional customer service with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experienced in handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong analytical skills with an aptitude for managing detailed quantitative information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to handle stressful situations and speak before groups.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SAP.
  • Proven ability to complete independent responsibilities while working effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines under pressure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in HRIS systems administration.
  • Knowledge of state and federal employment laws and regulations.
  • Familiarity with construction or manufacturing HR practices.
