About the position

The DuPage County Health Department is seeking a full-time Human Resources Generalist to join its HR team at our Central Public Health Center in Wheaton, Illinois. This role is currently a hybrid position, allowing for both remote and onsite work. The working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM. As a full-time employee of DuPage County, you will be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package that includes 12 paid holidays, 2 weeks of paid vacation, paid sick time, tuition reimbursement, and the ability to sign up for the federal student loan forgiveness program, along with participation in the IMRF Pension Fund, among other benefits. In this role, you will provide professional human resources support primarily in the areas of recruitment, employee relations, training, compensation, benefits, and payroll. Your responsibilities will include full cycle recruitment for assigned client departments using online applicant tracking and onboarding systems. You will also deliver training programs related to policies, workplace conduct, supervisory skill development, and new employee orientation. The ideal candidate will be comfortable conducting training in both virtual and in-person formats. Additionally, you will coach supervisors in managing employee relations matters and, if necessary, conduct confidential investigations into employee concerns. You will assist supervisors in preparing related documentation and will be responsible for researching and making recommendations for the development or revision of human resources policies, programs, and training. Leading processes related to job evaluation and team or service reorganization requests will also be part of your duties. Maintaining accurate and thorough records while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and organizational policies is essential. You will also engage in coaching for performance and development directly with staff and through the use of an online appraisal system.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or a related field.
  • Three years of professional Human Resources experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of the laws, regulations, and trends governing the human resources function.
