About the position

Fincantieri Marinette Marine, a progressive shipyard specializing in building ships for the United States Navy, is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our team in Marinette, Wisconsin. This position plays a crucial role in providing HR support to the Director and/or Manager of Human Resources within the assigned division(s). The HR Generalist will assist in the recruiting efforts to ensure that Marinette Marine attracts and successfully places highly competent candidates. This role encompasses a wide range of HR functions, including policy administration, recruitment, labor relations, performance management, regulatory and legal compliance, and employee training and development, all within a collaborative, team-based environment. The HR Generalist will manage the recruitment process for assigned hourly, non-exempt, and temporary positions. This includes posting jobs to build a candidate pool, reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and creating final approved offers. Additionally, the HR Generalist will prepare reports, presentations, and business communications, performing moderately complex analyses of data to draw inferences or conclusions. A significant aspect of this role involves taking a lead in employee relations, which includes gathering data, conducting investigations, and reporting findings. In this position, the HR Generalist will develop and institute HR best practices, support inquiries related to benefits and compensation, and lead routine HR projects. Responsibilities also include policy management, employee training and development, overseeing the contract labor program, and utilizing various HR systems to analyze metrics and identify key trends. The HR Generalist will assist departmental leadership with disciplinary actions and routinely audit employee files for compliance with established guidelines and applicable laws. This role does not involve direct supervision but may require oversight and support of administrative staff.

Responsibilities

  • Manage recruiting for assigned hourly, non-exempt, and temporary positions.
  • Post jobs to build candidate pool, review resumes, interview candidates, and create final approved offers.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, business communications, data summaries, and other documents.
  • Perform moderately complex analyses of data to draw inferences or conclusions.
  • Take a lead role in employee relations, gathering data, conducting investigations, and reporting findings.
  • Develop and institute HR best practices for the department's policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Support inquiries related to benefits, retirement, compensation, etc.
  • Lead routine HR projects including communications, conducting meetings, tracking results, reporting, and KPI reporting.
  • Manage policy administration and assist in employment issues, labor law, and compliance investigations.
  • Conduct new employee orientation sessions and other HR-related management development training sessions.
  • Oversee the performance management program and assist senior leaders with training delivery and needs assessment.
  • Oversee the contract labor program, including quota management and interaction with vendors.
  • Utilize various ADP and SAP modules to analyze HR metrics and recommend improvements.
  • Investigate and write reports on employee complaints and associated issues.
  • Assist departmental leadership with disciplinary actions when required.
  • Audit company employee files and employment law postings for accuracy and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in Human Resources or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Experience with recruitment processes and employee relations.
  • Proficient in using HRIS systems, particularly ADP and SAP modules.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare reports.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a manufacturing or shipbuilding environment.
  • Knowledge of labor laws and regulations.
  • Certification in Human Resources (e.g., PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP).
