About the position

James Moore & Co., P.L. is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our team in Tallahassee, FL. This full-time position is integral to supporting the Firm's core HR functions, which encompass employment practices, benefits administration, workers compensation, HRIS management, performance management, and employee relations. The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for effective communication with employees, managing employee paperwork and files, and creating processes to enhance the efficiency of the Human Resources department. The role requires a proactive approach to researching, developing, revising, and recommending HR best practices, policies, and procedures. In this position, you will assist with the evaluation process for both annual and mid-year reviews, which includes creating and updating evaluation forms, setting up semi-annual processes, and preparing reports. You will also support the onboarding process for new employees, ensuring transparent communication between new hires, hiring leaders, and all stakeholders involved. Additionally, you will aid in the enrollment of all benefit programs, acting as a liaison between employees and benefit providers to resolve inquiries and ensure compliance. The Human Resources Generalist will maintain accurate information in the Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), query and audit data, and compile reports as needed. You will also participate in the development of department goals and objectives, and assist in coordinating the Firm's Wellness Program. This role is designed for someone who enjoys dynamic work, balancing multiple projects, and has a strong sense of ownership in their responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Support all human resources related topics and activities including employment practices, compliance, performance management, employee relations, training, workplace issues, and employee engagement.
  • Proactively research, develop, revise, and recommend HR best practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with the evaluation process for both annual and mid-year reviews, including creating and updating evaluation forms and setting up semi-annual processes.
  • Support the onboarding process for new employees, ensuring consistent communication between all parties involved.
  • Aid in the enrollment of all benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, life, short-term disability, and long-term disability.
  • Act as a liaison between employees, brokers, and providers to resolve general benefit questions and interpret benefit information.
  • Process enrollments including new hires, open enrollment, and termination/COBRA.
  • Support the department with day-to-day activities including file maintenance and updates to the database.
  • Respond to inquiries by providing accurate information based on Firm policy and compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Maintain accurate information in the HRIS and compile reports as needed.
  • Make recommendations for process improvements to enhance efficiency and customer service.
  • Participate in the development of department goals, objectives, and processes.
  • Assist in the development and coordination of the Firm's Wellness Program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in human resources or related field with a full understanding of HR functions and best practices.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment law.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks positively and proactively under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to perform duties accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to utilize discretion with confidential information.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Highly computer literate with capability in email, MS Office, and HRIS.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with HRIS systems and data management.
  • Certifications in HR (e.g., PHR, SPHR) would be a plus.
  • Familiarity with employee wellness programs.
