About the position

Join our team as a Human Resources Generalist at the Hilton Richmond Downtown, where you will play a vital role in shaping the employee experience and supporting our hotel’s operations. This position is integral to maintaining a positive work environment and ensuring that our HR department runs smoothly and efficiently. You will be responsible for administering payroll and benefits, maintaining employee records, and assisting with the entire employee life cycle, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training. Your proactive approach will be essential in retaining our talent and enhancing employee engagement. As a Human Resources Generalist, you will actively support an orderly and efficient HR department that provides friendly, courteous, service-oriented, and timely support to team members, managers, and candidates. You will partner with hotel managers to process payroll on a bi-weekly basis, ensuring accurate and timely payroll updates, including new hires, terminations, rate changes, and deductions. Your role will also involve acting as a liaison between hotel management and the corporate payroll administrator, ensuring all necessary documentation for payroll is submitted in a timely manner. In addition to payroll processing, you will assist hotel managers in managing the recruitment process for non-exempt employees and work to improve onboarding and offboarding processes. You will support hotel employees and leaders in resolving issues, escalating to the HR Director when necessary. Your responsibilities will include assisting with corrective action meetings, investigations, and terminations, as well as maintaining employee files and ensuring they are complete and properly managed. You will also provide monthly reminders to employees regarding benefits enrollment and assist with enrollments and declinations as needed. Your visibility in the hotel will be crucial as you engage with employees and strengthen relationships. You will create and distribute a monthly training calendar, monthly celebration announcements, and maintain the hotel’s employee bulletin boards with current HR information. As the chair of the Blue Energy Committee, you will support initiatives to enhance employee engagement and recognition, while also co-chairing the Safety Committee to ensure adherence to hotel safety guidelines. Participation in various hotel meetings and internal audits will also be part of your role, along with assisting with new hire orientation and compliance tracking for training. You will help with the annual open enrollment process and employee engagement surveys, communicating results and developing action plans as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Actively support an orderly and efficient HR department that provides friendly, courteous, service-oriented, and timely support to team members, managers, and candidates.
  • Partner with hotel managers to process payroll on a bi-weekly basis, ensuring accurate and timely payroll updates including new hires, terminations, rate changes, deductions, etc.
  • Ensure all necessary documentation for payroll is submitted in a timely manner, and effectively audit/approve payroll preview for hotel.
  • Act as liaison between hotel manager and corporate payroll administrator.
  • Assist hotel managers in managing the recruitment process for non-exempt employees.
  • Partner with hotel managers to manage/improve onboarding & offboarding processes.
  • Support hotel employees & leaders in resolving issues; informing and escalating to HR Director when necessary.
  • Assist with corrective action meetings, investigations, and terminations.
  • Timely scanning & uploading of required documents to employee files in a timely manner; ensuring files are complete & properly maintained.
  • Provide monthly reminders to employees regarding upcoming eligibility and due dates for benefits enrollment. Assist with enrollments/declinations as needed.
  • Be visible in the hotel engaging with employees & strengthening relationships.
  • Create and distribute monthly training calendar, monthly celebration announcements, and other employee notices.
  • Maintain hotels employee bulletin boards with current HR information related to open positions, employee recognition, legal notices, training, and health & safety.
  • Act as a Blue Energy Committee chair, supporting the creation & implementation of initiatives to impact employee engagement & recognition.
  • Act as the Safety Committee co-chair, supporting the use of, and adherence to, all hotel safety guidelines.
  • Attend various weekly/monthly hotel meetings as needed.
  • Participate with internal audits and prepare periodic reports of various HR metrics.
  • Assist with presenting new hire orientation and other Hilton brand training, and with compliance tracking for training.
  • Assist with the annual open enrollment process and communication of changes in plans.
  • Assist with annual employee engagement surveys, communication of results & developing action plans.
  • Perform other duties as directed, developed, or assigned.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years related human resources experience required, preferably within a hotel/resort environment.
  • Prior experience processing payroll is required.
  • Proficient with payroll software required; ADP Workforce Now experience is a plus.
  • Prior recruiting experience preferred.
  • Working understanding of basic human resource principles, practices, and procedures required.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point and MS Outlook required.
  • Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • High energy and strong enthusiasm for service to others.
