About the position

The Canton Public Schools is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to serve as the Human Resources Generalist. This role is integral to the District's mission of elevating the educational experience for over 3,100 students in grades PreK-12. The Human Resources Generalist will join a vibrant and supportive team that prioritizes collaboration, creativity, flexibility, and a commitment to the goals of the District, as well as to our students, families, and staff. In this position, the Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for implementing HR functions that deliver excellent service to the District. Working closely and confidentially with the Director of Personnel Services, the Generalist will support various HR activities including hiring and recruitment, onboarding and offboarding of employees, managing leaves of absence, and handling separations. This role requires close collaboration with substitutes, staff, administration, and the payroll office to ensure smooth HR operations. The Human Resources Generalist will conduct new hire processing and onboarding for all District employees, ensuring compliance with new hire requirements and supporting new hires throughout the onboarding process. Additionally, the Generalist will assist with employee recruitment activities, process employment verifications, and maintain employee records. This position also involves supporting retirement processing, managing employee CORIs and fingerprinting, and ensuring accurate and timely status changes in collaboration with payroll. The Generalist will serve as a liaison for staff members, town personnel, and candidates, and will support the Director of Personnel Services with leave management and compliance with labor law documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts the new hire processing and onboarding for all District employees.
  • Processes all new hire paperwork and ensures compliance with new hire requirements, including I-9.
  • Coordinates new hire packets for Town Hall for benefit enrollment.
  • Meets and supports all new hires through the onboarding process.
  • Assists with employee recruitment activities, including job fairs.
  • Processes requests for and/or generates employment verifications.
  • Enters and updates all employee changes into Powerschool SIS and TalentEd.
  • Supports the Director of Personnel Services and all hiring managers in job posting and processing of all new staff activities during the hiring process.
  • Posts and monitors all open positions using TalentEd Applicant Tracking.
  • Responsible for all new hire account creation in the attendance management system.
  • Supports retirement processing for MTRS and Norfolk County, including staff enrollment, researching retirement issues, and applications.
  • Assists with the preparation of yearly letters for Unit E, Unit A, PTS.
  • Conducts and tracks all employee CORIs and Federal SAFIS Fingerprinting for every new employee and reprocess when required; maintains secure records.
  • Processes requests from former employees for fingerprinting documentation.
  • Supports the hiring and onboarding of daily substitutes and student teachers.
  • Supports New Educator Orientation planning and implementation.
  • Works closely with payroll to ensure accurate and timely status changes, new hires, and separations.
  • Creates, maintains, and updates all employee records both paper and electronic including filing, copying, scanning, and data entry/record maintenance.
  • Serves as a liaison for staff members, town personnel, and candidates.
  • Supports the Director of Personnel Services with leave management including FMLA.
  • Manages and keeps current all posted federal and state labor law documentation.
  • Performs other related tasks and assumes other related responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Personnel Services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
  • Three to five years Human Resources preferred; 3-5 years relevant work experience required.
  • Working knowledge of Google and Excel preferred; experience with Powerschool SIS a plus.
  • Previous experience and familiarity of use with a HRIS or other data system; specifically TalentEd Applicant Tracking and Records a plus.
  • Proven ability to work in a polite and friendly manner with all stakeholders.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented a must.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Employment based on successful completion of CORI and fingerprinting background.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a competitive salary range of $65,000 - $75,000.
  • Personal Service Contract.
