About the position

The Human Resources Generalist at Novolex plays a crucial role in supporting the Human Resources Manager by providing day-to-day HR leadership to the Plant Management team at the North Vernon facility, which employs over 200 individuals. This position is essential for maintaining a productive and compliant workplace, ensuring that all HR functions are executed efficiently and effectively. The HR Generalist will serve as a backup to the HR Manager when necessary, demonstrating flexibility and a comprehensive understanding of HR operations. Key responsibilities include processing unemployment claims, tracking and maintaining attendance records, and preparing necessary documentation related to employee attendance. The HR Generalist will also be responsible for completing Personnel Change Notice forms and coordinating recruitment activities. This includes posting job openings, screening candidates, conducting interviews, and updating job descriptions to ensure that the organization attracts and retains top talent. Additionally, the role involves conducting new-hire orientations, processing background checks, and managing employment verification requests. The HR Generalist will maintain employee personnel files and serve as a member of the Safety Committee, contributing to a safe and compliant work environment. They will assist with employee and labor relations issues, compile data for reports on turnover, absenteeism, and headcount, and report on Human Resources and Environmental, Health, and Safety data. The position also requires processing incoming and outgoing mail, ensuring that all HR communications are handled promptly and professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as back-up HR Manager when necessary
  • Process Unemployment Claims
  • Track and maintain attendance records; prepare attendance notification documents
  • Complete Personnel Change Notice forms
  • Coordinate and assist in all recruitment-related activities including posting/communicating open positions, screening candidates, conducting interviews, updating job descriptions
  • Conduct new-hire orientation
  • Process background checks and pre-employment requirements
  • Complete employment verification requests
  • Maintain employee personnel files
  • Serve as a member of the Safety Committee
  • Assist with Employee and Labor Relations issues
  • Compile data and publish related reports including turnover, absenteeism, head count, vacation
  • Compile and report Human Resources and Environmental, Health and Safety data
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Human Resources, or a combination of education and 3-5+ years of work-related experience required
  • Minimum 2 to 4+ years of Human Resources experience, preferably in an industrial setting
  • Experience with Kronos, ADP or similar HRIS and Applicant Tracking Systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Team player with ability to build lasting productive business relationships with hourly employees, management, and peers
  • Must possess a high degree of professionalism in handling confidential information
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends when required
  • Strong ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical, organizational and auditing skills required
  • Critical decision maker with the ability to work independently
  • Bilingual English/Spanish, required
