About the position

The Human Resources Generalist position is a full-time role based in Zanesville, Ohio, within the Customer Operations business unit. This position is designed to administer human resources policies and programs while balancing employee advocacy with business operational needs. The HR Generalist will promote equity, fair treatment, and positive employee relations, ensuring compliance with state and federal employment laws. The role involves providing comprehensive HR support to a designated client group, focusing on recruitment and retention of critical talent, continuous performance coaching and management, proactive issue identification and resolution, and coaching for effective leadership decision-making and communication skills. The HR Generalist will also be responsible for understanding and supporting the accomplishment of business priorities, building credible relationships with business leaders to enhance organizational effectiveness. In this role, the HR Generalist will ensure that company policies are administered fairly and consistently. They will effectively communicate and execute necessary changes to policies and procedures, perform employee relations functions, and provide support and counseling regarding personnel and job-related conflicts. This includes managing employee performance issues, conducting employee-related investigations, and handling workers' compensation processes. The HR Generalist will coordinate the administration of all Leave of Absence programs, conduct health and welfare benefits open enrollment meetings, and provide training for employees and supervisors on benefits, policies, and procedures. Additionally, the HR Generalist will ensure timely and accurate entries to the HRIS database and payroll for the designated client group. They will perform audit and compliance functions, maintain employee records in accordance with state and federal requirements, and participate in various HR committees as needed. The role may also involve assisting in the management and execution of bonus plans, merit processes, and the annual budget planning process, as well as recruiting and staffing from internal and external sources.

Responsibilities

  • Administer human resources policies and programs, balancing employee advocacy and business operating needs.
  • Promote equity, fair treatment, and positive employee relations while ensuring compliance with state and federal employment laws.
  • Provide comprehensive HR support to a designated client group in recruitment and retention of critical talent.
  • Conduct continuous performance coaching and management, and proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Build credible relationships with Business Leaders to enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Communicate and execute necessary changes to policies and procedures effectively.
  • Perform employee relations functions including support and counseling regarding personnel conflicts and dispute resolution.
  • Conduct employee-related investigations as necessary and manage employee performance issues.
  • Coordinate the administration of all Leave of Absence programs and processes.
  • Conduct health and welfare benefits open enrollment meetings and employee training sessions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate entries to the HRIS database and payroll for the designated client group.
  • Perform audit and compliance functions as requested, including verification of audit reports and payroll information.
  • Maintain employee records in compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Participate in various HR committees to resolve employment challenges as needed.
  • Assist in the management and execution of bonus plans and merit processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of Human Resources Generalist experience.
  • Prior experience in employee relations.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal employment laws and procedures.
  • Knowledge of state and federal wage and hour laws.
  • Knowledge of staffing and employment practices.
  • Consultative and coaching skills.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management and company personnel.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems under pressure.
  • Strong PC skills and proficiency in MS Office.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively.
  • Ability to show judgment and initiative in accomplishing job duties in a timely manner.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications for Human Resource Professionals (PHR, SPHR) preferred.
  • Knowledge of cable television products and services a plus.
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record preferred.
