About the position

As a member of the Human Resources Investigative Unit (HRIU) and under the guidance of the Director of Internal Workplace Investigations, the Human Resources Investigator II plays a crucial role in conducting prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations of complaints alleging violations of the City's policies. This position requires the application of investigative skills and procedural knowledge to handle situations of moderate complexity. The investigator will be responsible for assessing complaints, determining the timing and scope of investigations, and developing an overall investigative plan. This role also involves collaboration with the Minneapolis Police Department's Internal Affairs Unit for joint investigations of protected class complaints originating within the MPD. The Human Resources Investigator II will assist in responding to requests from the City Attorney's Office for litigation preparation by researching HRIU records and providing necessary investigative data and materials. As a neutral factfinder, the investigator will conduct and oversee investigations, interview relevant parties, gather and analyze documents, and assess the credibility of participants. Producing quality investigative summary reports that are timely, thorough, and well-written is a key responsibility of this role. The investigator will also support the Director of Internal Workplace Investigations in managing the HRIU complaint investigation process, providing advice and non-legal counsel to City leadership and HR Business Partners when appropriate.
