About the position

The L&D Training Specialist at Kings Dominion plays a crucial role in the Learning & Development department, focusing on employee onboarding, training classes, and the management of the learning system. This part-time position involves leading training sessions, developing training content, and ensuring compliance with company policies. The specialist will also motivate staff and foster a positive culture within the park.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and coach staff on the L&D team.
  • Instruct and lead classes in both classroom and virtual settings for employees and front-line park leaders.
  • Organize, facilitate, and assist with trainings taught by other instructors or representatives.
  • Facilitate and lead Associate discussions, focus groups, and solo/group activities.
  • Provide class/course feedback to help refine and enhance park offerings.
  • Evaluate, coach, and mentor classroom trainers on their public speaking and teaching skills.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and legal regulations/guidelines.
  • Assist the L&D team with the creation of training content as needed.
  • Assist with record keeping, auditing, payroll, and reporting for employee compliance with completing required classes/courses.
  • Help manage inventory stock levels, supplies, and their proper storage for the department.
  • Complete special projects as assigned by park leadership.
  • Motivate and instill in Associates positive service focused expectations and understanding.
  • Be a positive culture champion for the park and the Staff Services Division.
  • Properly coordinate and communicate with others including park Associates, HR management, park leadership, and vendors.
  • Assist in other areas of the Staff Services Division as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Prior training, instructor, and/or public speaking experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree (or actively in progress) strongly preferred, especially in an educational, training, organizational, or business field.
  • Prior leadership, supervision, or management experience is a plus.
  • Prior instructional design or class/course/presentation building experience is a plus.
  • Prior human resources or administrative experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including days, evenings, weekends, and holiday periods as required.
  • Strong presentation/public speaking skills with confidence in front of large groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn computer-based applications quickly.
  • Problem solver who can formulate solutions and convey them to leadership.
  • Flexible and willing to gain broader knowledge of Human Resources procedures.
  • Ability to provide exceptional service when interacting with employees, coworkers, guests, and others.
  • Ability and confidence to coach, counsel, mentor, and influence staff and others.
  • Ability to work independently of constant supervision.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to pass a background check, if 18 years of age or older.
