About the position

The Human Resources Manager will play a crucial role in managing the HR department at a manufacturing facility near Frederick, MD. This position involves partnering with organizational leadership to address complex challenges, overseeing hiring and retention processes, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and supporting employee training and development. The HR Manager will also handle labor relations, including contract negotiations and grievances, while fostering a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supports plant management in assessing departmental needs and organizational planning and development.
  • Plans, organizes, and controls all activities of the HR department.
  • Participates in developing departmental goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Rewrites position descriptions as necessary and monitors performance evaluation processes.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements personnel policies and procedures.
  • Oversees labor contract negotiations and contract administration, including grievances and arbitrations.
  • Maintains staffing levels consistent with plant objectives.
  • Recruits, interviews, and selects employees to fill vacant positions.
  • Plans and coordinates new employee orientation to foster a positive attitude toward company goals.
  • Trains managers and supervisors in conducting interviews and selection in compliance with company policies.
  • Oversees location employee payroll with the support of the corporate payroll team.
  • Supports employee benefit administration through plan education and communication.
  • Plans and carries out employee relations functions to support engagement and appreciation efforts.
  • Conducts wage and salary surveys to determine competitive rates and develops salary administration plans.
  • Develops and coordinates the company's general training needs.
  • Conducts training on company policy issues and employee development.
  • Promotes employee relations by counseling employees and managers on various issues.
  • Ensures compliance in recordkeeping and reporting related to all areas of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3 years direct HR Generalist experience or 7 years or more of progressive HR experience
  • Ability to interact well with people on all levels
  • Solid understanding of key principles of employment laws
  • Strong ethics and morals, sound judgment, ability to remain calm during difficult situations
  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP certification preferred
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to use various types of HR software (HRIS)
