About the position

The Human Resources Manager at Republic Services plays a crucial role in managing the human resources function for assigned divisions, acting as a business partner with local management teams. This position operates under limited and general direction from an Area Director of Human Resources and is responsible for ensuring compliance with industry regulations and company programs. The HR Manager administers various HR functions including staffing, training, employee relations, compliance, benefits, and compensation programs at the local level. Additionally, this role is actively engaged in implementing strategic HR initiatives that align with the company's goals and objectives. In this position, the HR Manager provides essential advice and consultation to both employees and management. This includes coaching and counseling on performance management issues, conflict resolution, and interpretation of employment policies. The HR Manager is tasked with implementing, disseminating, and monitoring company policies and programs related to training, compensation, compliance, and benefits, all aimed at attracting, retaining, and motivating employees. The HR Manager also oversees the recording and maintenance of critical employee information, ensuring that personal data, compensation, benefits, tax data, attendance, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions are accurately documented. Compliance with federal, state, and local laws regarding equal employment opportunity and affirmative action is a key responsibility, as is coordinating with division operations and corporate HR staff on all employment activities. Furthermore, the HR Manager assists in conducting investigations regarding employee complaints and concerns, participates in local management meetings, and influences personnel-related decisions. Identifying training needs and developing appropriate training programs is also part of the role, along with conducting training sessions such as new hire orientation and leadership training. The HR Manager may oversee other HR staff and is involved in succession planning and talent management to support leadership needs. This position may require travel by air, car, and other modes of transportation up to 60% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Provides human resources advice and consultation to employees and management, including coaching and counseling on performance management issues and conflict management.
  • Implements, disseminates, and monitors company policies, programs, and procedures in training, compensation, compliance, and benefits.
  • Oversees recording and maintenance of employee information such as personal data, compensation, benefits, tax data, attendance, and performance reviews.
  • Monitors division compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations relating to equal employment opportunity and affirmative action.
  • Coordinates with division operations and corporate/area Human Resources staff regarding all employment activity within the division.
  • Assists in conducting and resolving investigations regarding employee complaints and concerns.
  • Participates in local management staff meetings and influences personnel-related decisions.
  • Coaches and counsels managers on performance management.
  • Identifies training needs and develops training programs, conducting sessions including new hire orientation and leadership training.
  • Performs or assists with necessary Human Resource related audits for specific locations.
  • Implements succession planning and talent management plans to support leadership needs.
  • May oversee and direct the work of other Human Resources staff or administrative staff members.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum of 3 years of directly applicable experience as an HR Generalist or HR Manager involved in all aspects of HR.
