About the position

The Human Resources (HR) Manager at Grace Church is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the full spectrum of HR functions within the organization. This position requires a faith-filled individual who embodies professionalism and confidentiality, and who is passionate about serving the church and its community. The HR Manager will partner closely with leadership to create a supportive work environment that aligns with the ministry's goals and values. This role is not just about managing HR processes; it is about fostering a culture that encourages growth, engagement, and alignment with the church's mission. In this role, the HR Manager will supervise HR staff and build a volunteer leadership team to enhance HR initiatives. They will develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract top talent, manage the entire recruitment process from job postings to onboarding, and maintain relationships with recruiting partners. The HR Manager will also be responsible for creating a comprehensive onboarding experience that fosters connection and retention among new hires, as well as leading the offboarding process, including conducting exit interviews. The HR Manager will support payroll and administer benefits programs while ensuring compliance with labor laws. They will implement and update the compensation program annually and conduct salary surveys to maintain competitive compensation practices. Employee relations will be a key focus, as the HR Manager will foster an environment that encourages open communication and conflict resolution. They will develop and implement HR policies and procedures that align with the church's vision, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Training and development will also fall under the HR Manager's purview, as they will create and deliver training on HR policies and other relevant topics. Additionally, the HR Manager will partner with the Intern & Resident Director to oversee internship and residency programs, and will develop employee engagement initiatives that align with the church's values. Budget management is also a critical aspect of this role, ensuring good stewardship of ministry funds while performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise HR staff and build a volunteer leadership team.
  • Partner with leadership to understand ministry goals and translate them into actionable HR strategies.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract top talent.
  • Manage the entire recruitment process, from job posting to offer and onboarding.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive and engaging onboarding process.
  • Lead new hires through an onboarding experience that fosters connection and retention.
  • Develop, implement, and lead the offboarding process, including conducting exit interviews.
  • Support payroll, administer benefits programs, and ensure compliance with relevant labor laws and regulations.
  • Implement and update the compensation program annually; conduct a bi-annual salary survey and analysis.
  • Foster an environment that encourages and equips staff to have courageous conversations.
  • Advise and coordinate efforts to resolve employee relations issues and mediate conflict promptly and confidentially.
  • Develop and implement the employee evaluation process, including 90-day, annual, and 360-degree evaluations.
  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures that align with Grace Church's vision and values.
  • Ensure policies, procedures, and reporting comply with any applicable laws and regulations.
  • Stay current on relevant employment laws and regulations, and ensure compliance.
  • Establish and maintain employee records and job descriptions.
  • Develop and deliver training and development on HR policies and procedures.
  • Partner with the Intern & Resident Director to develop, implement, and oversee the Internship and Residency Programs.
  • Develop and implement employee engagement initiatives that align with ministry goals and values.
  • Prepare and operate within a budget, ensuring good stewardship of ministry funds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or PHR/SHRM certification.
  • 3-5 years of Human Resources experience.
  • Experience serving faith-based ministries is highly desirable.
  • Experience managing a Human Resource Information System, preferably Paycom.
  • Effectively led people, directly or indirectly.
  • Great relational skills: friendly, caring, genuine and professional.
  • Outstanding communication, organizational and teambuilding skills.
  • Able to work independently with little supervision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in developing training programs.
  • Knowledge of employee engagement strategies.
  • Familiarity with labor laws and compliance issues.
