About the position

The Human Resources Manager is a pivotal role within the organization, serving as a key business partner to the facility manager and supervising staff. This position is responsible for providing coaching, consulting, and support in various HR functions, including policy interpretation and application, particularly in relation to labor relations. The HR Manager ensures that management consistently executes the Collective Bargaining Agreement and adheres to labor regulations and company policies. This role is integral in leading culture initiatives that encompass employee communications, health and wellness programs, community involvement, reward and recognition systems, performance management, and other activities that foster a positive work environment. The HR Manager must align business operations with human resources strategies to exceed customer expectations and drive organizational success. In addition to the strategic aspects of the role, the HR Manager will engage in various job functions that include providing employee and labor relations counseling, advising managers on performance-based issues, and overseeing career development planning for both direct reports and top-performing employees. The position also involves investigating employee relations issues, managing affirmative action programs, developing recruiting strategies, and coordinating site succession and workforce planning efforts. The HR Manager will participate in project teams and contribute to the mill leadership team, providing feedback from both employee and company perspectives. This role requires attendance at daily production meetings and may involve weekend duties as necessary. The HR Manager will also administer payroll and attendance tracking in the absence of the HR Coordinator, with travel expectations of up to 25%.

Responsibilities

  • Provide employee & labor relations counseling and problem solving for managers and employees.
  • Advise, counsel, and train managers and supervisors on performance-based issues.
  • Oversee and manage career development planning for direct reports and top-performing employees.
  • Investigate employee relation issues such as grievances and harassment allegations.
  • Manage the Collective Bargaining Agreement and Labor Relations, including contract administration responsibilities.
  • Develop recruiting strategies for hourly and salaried positions.
  • Partner with leadership to identify management development needs.
  • Manage and coordinate site succession and workforce planning efforts.
  • Lead and participate on various project teams.
  • Attend daily production meetings and lead business-related meetings as needed.
  • Promote, retain, recruit, and attract top talent at all levels.
  • Administer Payroll and Attendance Tracking in the absence of HR Coordinator.
  • Perform weekend duty responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) to ten (10) years' experience managing Human Resources in a unionized manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing multiple labor-related activities such as grievance processes and contract negotiations.
  • Experience managing multiple human resources generalist disciplines at all levels.
  • Prior experience supervising direct reports.
  • Heavy manufacturing experience is desired.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field; Master's preferred.
  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Labor Relations and NLRB regulations.
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and compliance regulations.
