About the position

As a Human Resources Manager at The Salvation Army North & Central Illinois Division, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing all aspects of the human resources function within the organization. This position is essential for managing staff, overseeing departmental functions, and developing strategies and policies that align with the overall business objectives. You will bridge management and employee relations by addressing demands, grievances, and other issues that may arise, ensuring a harmonious workplace environment. Your responsibilities will include assessing training needs and applying and monitoring training programs, while coordinating with safety to ensure that all mandatory training is tracked and up to date. You will be responsible for ensuring legal compliance throughout human resource management, developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives that are aligned with the organization's goals. Additionally, you will provide orientation for new employees to ensure a successful onboarding process and ensure compliance with procedures and policies in the processing of information. You will also be tasked with maintaining healthy employee relations through feedback, events, and recognition initiatives, while assisting with diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. As a representative of The Salvation Army, you will embody its mission in all contacts related to your duties. This role is dynamic and may involve other duties as assigned, reflecting the evolving nature of the organization and its needs.

Responsibilities

  • Bridge management and employee relations by addressing demands, grievances, or other issues.
  • Assess training needs to apply and monitor training programs, coordinating with safety to ensure all mandatory training is tracked and up to date.
  • Ensure legal compliance throughout human resource management.
  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
  • Provide orientation for new employees to ensure a successful onboarding process.
  • Ensure compliance with procedure and policy in the processing of information.
  • Ensure supervisors/managers understand information needed and the critical nature of these requirements.
  • Ensure files comply with policy and procedure; implement a plan to follow up on missing data.
  • Disseminate and implement HR Policy, including Central Territory Handbook and Division/Site Addendums.
  • Coordinate with DHQ for the timely and accurate processing of DFB information.
  • Maintain healthy employee relations through employee feedback, events, and recognition.
  • Assist with diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
  • Human Resource Certification required (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP).
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in HR, preferably in social services or faith-based organizations.
  • Proven working experience as a Human Resource Manager or other HR Executive.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address employee-related issues and create beneficial solutions.
  • Interpersonal and relationship-building skills to foster a positive work environment and mediate conflicts.
  • Demonstrable experience with key HR metrics and their application in driving strategy and decision-making.
  • Knowledge of HRIS systems and databases.
  • Ability to architect strategy along with leadership skills.
  • Excellent active listening, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of employment laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Change management skills to guide and implement organizational changes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in social services or faith-based organizations is preferred.
