About the position

As a Human Resources Manager at Visual Comfort & Co., you will play a pivotal role in cultivating a positive work environment through effective employee relations, engagement strategies, and performance management. You will collaborate closely with leadership and department heads to ensure our team members are motivated, productive, and aligned with company goals and mission. The HR Manager will lead a team consisting of an HR Business Partner and an HR Coordinator. In this role, you will provide support and guidance to management and other team members when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise. This includes managing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and addressing performance issues. You will work with leadership on managing employee disciplinary meetings, written documentation, and investigations. Additionally, you will develop and implement proactive strategies to promote positive employee relations and minimize conflicts. You will also be responsible for maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, reviewing policies and practices to ensure they align with recommended best practices. Your role will involve designing and executing initiatives to enhance employee engagement and morale, including events, surveys, and recognition programs. Analyzing engagement survey data and collaborating with management to implement action plans based on feedback will be key components of your responsibilities. Furthermore, you will oversee the performance management process, including goal setting, performance reviews, and development plans. Providing guidance to managers on effective performance feedback and coaching techniques will be essential. You will monitor performance evaluation metrics to ensure fairness and consistency across the organization, while also staying updated on employment laws and regulations to ensure company policies and practices comply. Collaboration with legal counsel may be necessary to address compliance issues.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred
  • 7+ years' experience in Human Resources
  • Thorough knowledge of employment related laws and regulations, California preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism and confidentiality
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Aptitude for critical thinking, problem-solving and decision making
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and to delegate when appropriate
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals and governmental regulations
  • Ability to achieve results both independently and through others by fostering a spirit of teamwork and cooperation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related software
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn HRIS systems
