About the position

The Human Resources Payroll Specialist is responsible for administering payroll activities, ensuring compliance with pay policies, and maintaining accurate payroll records. This role involves processing payroll transactions, assisting employees with payroll-related inquiries, and preparing various reports. The specialist will work under general supervision and may assist with other human resources functions as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains payroll records and provides related human resources support.
  • Gathers data and codes time and attendance sheets for each employee.
  • Prepares, calculates, balances data, and enters time reports, verifying departmental time sheets for accuracy.
  • Processes wage garnishments and assists employees with sick and vacation information.
  • Provides employees with information regarding policy and benefit changes.
  • Processes personnel action forms and verifies forms for accuracy.
  • Enters personnel information, job classification, and performance evaluations into the computer system.
  • Conducts research and reviews reports to verify information and resolve errors.
  • Prepares and processes changes in the automated management information system for bi-weekly payrolls.
  • Performs various support duties including typing documentation and preparing memoranda.
  • Maintains department office supplies and processes purchase requisitions.
  • Prepares health insurance invoices for payment and responds to information requests.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Four years of experience preparing payrolls and maintaining payroll records.
  • Knowledge of payroll principles and practices and human resources information systems.
  • Proficient PC skills in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and maintain accurate records.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to multitask in a stressful environment with specific deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Knowledge of automated time and attendance systems.
