About the position

The Human Resources Specialist III serves as the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Administrator for the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). This role involves providing advanced administrative and technical assistance within the HR office, specifically focusing on the administration of employee FMLA leave and state Parental Leave. The specialist coordinates communications, documentation, and compliance related to FMLA and Parental Leave, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality while providing guidance to management and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex administrative support functions regarding employee FMLA leave and state Parental Leave.
  • Coordinate FMLA/Parental Leave communications, correspondence, reports, forms, and memos for review and approval.
  • Assist management and staff with FMLA/Parental Leave forms, reports, and documentation.
  • Evaluate FMLA/Parental Leave documentation for accuracy and provide technical guidance.
  • Monitor and track employee FMLA/Parental Leave events and deadlines, providing updates and reminders.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding FMLA/Parental Leave policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain confidential electronic and hard-copy filing systems for FMLA/Parental Leave records.
  • Prepare, edit, and format reports, communications, and documents related to FMLA/Parental Leave.
  • Complete special assignments and projects as delegated by HR management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 year of full-time experience in Human Resources.
  • Experience interpreting and applying HR policies and procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience entering, updating, retrieving, and analyzing data from automated systems.
  • Knowledge of or experience processing FMLA.
