About the position

The HR Business Partner at Minnesota State University Moorhead provides advanced strategic human resources services to designated campus units. This role encompasses various HR functions including recruitment, staffing, benefits administration, classification, compensation, and employee/labor relations support. The HR Business Partner also assists with special projects and reports, ensuring superior customer service to all university clientele.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate hiring for specified campus departments, advising Hiring Managers and Search Committees on best practices.
  • Advise hiring authorities on inclusivity and adherence to university processes that value diversity, equity, and belonging.
  • Monitor applicant pools in accordance with Affirmative Action goals and submit quarterly reports.
  • Create position postings and analyze required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Manage reference checks for finalist candidates and consult with Hiring Managers on strengths and areas of improvement.
  • Consult and advise employees on various leave options and oversee transactional processing of leaves.
  • Serve as a resource for retiring employees regarding benefits and retirement payouts.
  • Determine employee eligibility for insurance benefits and retirement plans, ensuring accurate and timely decisions.
  • Advise supervisors on job design concepts and make classification and compensation recommendations.
  • Partner with hiring managers to set salaries and provide information on merit-based increases.
  • Provide employee and labor relations counsel to ensure compliance with laws and policies.
  • Conduct employment investigations into allegations of misconduct and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Lead and implement HR initiatives that support MSUM's core values and strategic priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Three years of human resources experience in payroll processing, HR transactions, or administering employee benefits programs.
  • Strong customer service and human relations skills to interact professionally with diverse individuals.
  • Demonstrated confidence and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent English speaking, writing, and reading skills for effective communication.
  • Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft 365, Zoom, and Adobe.
  • Intermediate MS Excel skills for data cleaning and report creation.

  • HR Certification (SHRM-CP or PHR).
