About the position

The Human Resources Specialist Trainee 1 position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide program (NY HELPS). This role is designed for individuals who meet specific educational qualifications and offers a pathway to competitive employment status within the New York State system. The position involves serving as a primary liaison in the Personnel Leaves Unit, providing guidance on various leave types and processing personnel transactions. Successful candidates will work in a collaborative environment, focusing on professional development and relationship building across diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary Personnel liaison for assigned program(s) regarding leaves and separations under Civil Service rules and regulations.
  • Provide assistance, advocacy, guidance, and advice on medical leaves, Family and Medical Leave, probationary leaves, and discretionary leaves.
  • Process all Personnel transactions into the Human Capital Management (HCM) system.
  • Participate in special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented and accurate.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to independently prioritize workload.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and manage shifting priorities.
  • Experience with Human Resource Information System (HRIS).
  • Experience with Human Capital Management (HCM).
  • Experience in processing personnel transactions.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.
