About the position

The Human Resources Specialist 1/Trainee position at the New York Workers' Compensation Board involves coordinating recruitment efforts and providing assistance to employees and program managers. The role includes a variety of recruitment activities, ensuring compliance with policies and laws, and serving as a primary contact for personnel inquiries. Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of recruitment activities to provide program managers with a qualified candidate pool.
  • Ensure that appointments are made in accordance with policy and Civil Service Law.
  • Conduct research and analysis to develop agency requests for classification, reclassification, reallocation, and earmark release.
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of employee, supervisory, and staffing issues in assigned program areas.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for personnel questions and problems, assisting program area managers, supervisors, and employees.
  • Monitor employee status ensuring appropriate transactions are processed.
  • Keep abreast of program goals and alert supervisor of emerging problems.
  • Conduct research and represent the Board at scope conferences.
  • Maintain, update, and file employee records, classification packages, and documentation of non-routine decisions.
  • Participate in special projects within Human Resources or in intra-agency or inter-agency work groups.

Requirements

  • Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree or higher.
  • For Trainee 2, a bachelor's degree and one year of professional human resources experience is required.
  • For Human Resources Specialist 1, a bachelor's degree and two years of professional human resources experience is required.
  • A Juris Doctor, master's, or higher degree in a related field can substitute for one year of specialized experience.

Nice-to-haves
