The Human Resources Specialist 1 (Trainee 1, Trainee 2) position at the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) is a full-time role based in Long Island City, New York. The selected individual will work under the supervision of a Human Resources Specialist 2 and will be responsible for a variety of personnel activities that are essential to the management of the workforce. The role includes assisting with recruitment-related activities and events, working closely with management to identify staffing needs, and participating in large workforce initiatives such as Seasonal Hiring and Reduction in Force. Effective communication is a key component of this position, as the specialist will be required to interact with candidates, respond to inquiries, and provide information regarding the appointment process. The role may also involve supervising a staff of employees in the Regional Administrative Office, providing guidance to program managers, and acting as a liaison with the Main Office Payroll to resolve discrepancies and customer relations issues.
