About the position

The Human Resources Specialist 1 at Riverland Community College is responsible for providing comprehensive HR services to employees, supporting various HR functions including recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, benefits, compensation, and training. This role operates under the Vice President of Human Resources & Employee Relations and is crucial in managing confidential information related to labor relations and collective bargaining negotiations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site HR services to employees.
  • Support HR functions in recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, benefits, compensation, and training.
  • Assist in all phases of HR within the college.
  • Handle confidential information related to labor relations and collective bargaining negotiations.
  • Research and compile classification and compensation information for salary range proposals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and three years of administrative support experience.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable state/federal employment laws and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with business software applications (Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Forms, and Word) and HR Management Information Systems (HRIS, SkillSurvey).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills sufficient to create clear documentation and present information effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to focus on complex issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent decision-making skills with the ability to analyze complex information and create reports for management.
  • Experience in handling confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree or higher in office management, HR, or related area.
  • Experience with recruitment, onboarding, employee training programs, benefits administration, and employee engagement.
  • Knowledge of State and/or MnSCU personnel policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional HR development.
  • Prior experience working at a Minnesota State institution or in public sector HR management.
  • Bilingual/multilingual in languages reflecting the student body and community.
  • Experience working with multicultural and underserved populations.
