About the position

The Human Resources Specialist 2 position at the New York State Police involves supporting agency program operations with a focus on staff recruitment, classification, compensation, and personnel records management. The role requires a significant degree of independence and includes supervising lower-level staff, developing recruitment strategies, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance HR processes.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and train lower-level subordinate staff in records management and personnel transactions.
  • Schedule and assign work to subordinate staff; review work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with hiring unit managers to assess recruitment needs.
  • Review and evaluate existing personnel unit policies and recommend new procedures.
  • Compose agency classification requests and conduct desk audits and studies as needed.
  • Oversee the New York State Police Internship Program.
  • Perform research and analysis in response to out of title work grievances.

Requirements

  • One year of permanent service in a SG-18 or higher personnel, payroll or administrative title.
  • 7 years of relevant experience in human resources activities such as staffing and recruitment, personnel records management, and organizational development.
  • A Bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of experience; a Master's degree may substitute for an additional year of experience.

Benefits

  • Salary range from $84,246 to $105,255 annually.
