About the position

The Human Resources Specialist (Administrative Assistant IV) at Fairfax County Government plays a crucial role in supporting the finance and human resources team. This position is responsible for conducting various HR-related activities, including payroll management, benefits administration, recruitment, onboarding, and ensuring compliance with HR laws and regulations. Additionally, the role involves providing general administrative support and may include responsibilities such as financial reconciliation and procurement activities.

Responsibilities

  • Support and conduct HR-related activities such as payroll, benefits administration, recruitment, and onboarding.
  • Ensure compliance with agency, county, state, and federal HR laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Function as the RCC Training Coordinator and handle other HR-related duties as assigned.
  • Review and approve disbursement forms and provide customized reports to analysts.
  • Authorize requests for goods and services and monitor contract compliance.
  • Develop filing systems and internal mailing processes, and prepare non-routine correspondence.
  • Prepare routine reports and statistics based on compiled information.
  • Initiate processing for complex personnel actions and conduct new employee orientation.
  • Counsel employees on basic benefit questions and resolve personnel processing problems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3 years of administrative experience in human resources or related field.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
  • Experience with Human Capital Management software or HRIS systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform complex payroll and personnel actions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Human Resource Certification(s) (PHR, IPMA-CP or SHRM-CP).
  • Experience using NeoGov or similar recruitment software.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce reports using Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving and follow-through skills.
