About the position

The City of Salem is seeking a Human Resources Specialist to support its Human Resources Division and Talent Acquisition team. This position is designed to last for 12 months and involves providing paraprofessional, technical, and administrative support in various HR functions, including recruitment, benefits administration, and employee relations. The role emphasizes building a diverse and inclusive workforce and offers opportunities for professional development within a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide paraprofessional, technical, and administrative support within the Human Resources Division.
  • Manage multiple work tasks and prioritize effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain HRIS data and manage employee records, including new hire paperwork.
  • Support recruitment and talent acquisition efforts to attract and retain top talent.
  • Conduct research and formulate recommendations for HR policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and schedule interviews with hiring managers and candidates.
  • Train and advise hiring managers on interviewing techniques and assessment methods.
  • Develop and create reports related to HR activities and compliance.
  • Source and attract candidates through various channels, including job boards and social media.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2-3 years of experience in payroll or human resources processing.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Experience with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to work with diverse groups.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual skills for effective communication with diverse populations.
