The Human Resources Specialist - Attorneys will play a crucial role in supporting the HR needs of attorneys in the New York office. This position involves a variety of HR functions including onboarding, offboarding, retention initiatives, and diversity initiatives. The specialist will serve as the primary resource for attorney HR matters, ensuring that the firm’s client service principles are upheld while fostering a collegial and collaborative work environment. In this role, the Human Resources Specialist will provide day-to-day HR support for attorneys, working closely with the Human Resources Manager and Office Practice Leaders to implement development, morale, and engagement efforts. The specialist will facilitate various HR processes such as leaves of absence, secondments, and employment verification. Additionally, the role includes coordinating the onboarding process for lateral attorneys, facilitating New York New Lawyer Orientation for first-year associates, and supporting attorney retention and development initiatives. The specialist will also assist with immigration needs, coordinate attorney departures, and provide support for HR trainings and events. This position requires strong communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality. Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day HR support for attorneys in assigned business units.
  • Partner with the Human Resources Manager and Office Practice Leaders to ensure attorney development, morale, and engagement efforts are successfully implemented.
  • Facilitate human resources issues such as firm policies, leaves of absence, secondments, separations, and employment verification.
  • Facilitate the onboarding processes for lateral attorneys, including communications with new hires and coordinating new hire paperwork and orientation schedules.
  • Facilitate New York New Lawyer Orientation for First Year Associates and Post-Clerks, including integration efforts 30, 60, and 90 days after arrival.
  • Work with Attorney Personnel on PeopleSoft updates related to new hires and status changes.
  • Initiate and participate in attorney retention and development initiatives.
  • Provide HR support on immigration needs, including completing the PERM application process.
  • Assist in the annual evaluation process and solicit and compile interim feedback.
  • Coordinate attorney departures and provide on-the-ground support for HR trainings and events hosted out of the NY office.
  • Initiate and facilitate initiatives for Associate, Lateral Integration, and Mentor committees.
  • Support survey initiatives including Vault, Chambers, and AmLaw surveys.
  • Facilitate the NYO mentoring program and work with the committee on related initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet Firm goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience directly related to the functions of the job.
  • Minimum of three years of recruiting or human resources experience required.
  • Prior experience in a legal or business services setting preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products required.
  • Knowledge of software tools such as PeopleSoft and experience with similar database tools for applicant tracking and HR information a plus.
  • Proficiency in virtual platforms such as Microsoft Teams, WebEx, and Zoom.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of the Firm and outside vendors.
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment and effectively support the demanding needs of the Firm.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with shifting priorities.
  • Self-starter with a high level of initiative and strong customer service skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to handle multiple projects.
