About the position

The City of Springfield is seeking a Human Resources Specialist focused on employee benefits administration. This role involves coordinating and managing city-wide benefit plans, serving as a point of contact for employee inquiries, ensuring compliance with laws, and collaborating with external vendors. The position is integral to supporting the benefits program for city employees and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and administer City-wide benefit plans and programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and voluntary benefits.
  • Serve as the point of contact for employees regarding benefits inquiries and employee benefits education.
  • Ensure benefits programs comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with external benefits vendors, manage service delivery, and resolve issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Public or Business Administration, or a related field.
  • One year of professional experience in centralized human resources in a benefits assignment.
  • Master's Degree in Human Resources or a related area may substitute for the experience requirement.
  • Active PHR or SHRM-CP certification is preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License.
