About the position

The Human Resources Specialist (Compensation) position is responsible for managing the Department of Education's automated pay data and personnel system, focusing on payroll allocations and related activities. The role involves ensuring compliance with established regulations and providing accurate responses to payroll-related inquiries. The position is telework eligible, allowing for occasional remote work under specific conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Performing a wide range of technical and administrative assignments in human resources management concepts, laws, policies, practices, analytical, and diagnostic methods.
  • Ensuring that provided responses are accurate and compliant with current established statutes, regulations, policies, guidelines, processes, and procedures.
  • Identifying problems related to pay coordination and personnel-related processing, resolving administrative errors and discrepancies.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-09 performing payroll duties, responding to payroll-related questions, or uploading payroll documentation.
  • A combination of education and experience that totals at least 100 percent to qualify for the GS-11 level.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of current Human Resources database systems to query, retrieve, and analyze information.
  • Skill in applying written and oral communication techniques sufficient to develop and deliver briefings and reports.
