About the position

As a Human Resources Specialist (Employee Benefits) in the FECA Division of COMPACFLT HRO NORTHWEST, you will play a crucial role in administering the Federal Employees' Compensation Act (FECA) Program. Your primary responsibility will be to provide expert advice to employees and supervisors regarding workers' compensation claims resulting from injuries and diseases. This position requires you to conduct thorough case management for both current and former employees who are on the Office of Workers' Compensation Programs (OWCP) periodic rolls. You will be expected to navigate complex regulations and ensure compliance with federal guidelines while assisting employees in understanding their rights and benefits under the FECA program. In this role, you will also be responsible for gathering and analyzing data related to compensation claims, which will involve communicating effectively with various stakeholders, including employees, supervisors, and external agencies. You will need to maintain accurate records and documentation to support claims processing and ensure timely responses to inquiries. Your expertise will be vital in helping employees navigate the often challenging landscape of workers' compensation, providing them with the necessary support and guidance throughout the claims process. Additionally, you will be involved in educating employees about their benefits and the procedures for filing claims, which may include conducting training sessions or informational briefings. This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of employees by ensuring they receive the benefits they are entitled to in a timely and efficient manner. You will work closely with a team of HR professionals and may have the chance to contribute to policy development and program improvements within the FECA Division.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the Federal Employees' Compensation Act (FECA) Program.
  • Provide advice to employees and supervisors regarding workers' compensation claims due to injury and/or disease.
  • Conduct case management for current and former employees on the Office of Workers' Compensation Programs (OWCP) periodic rolls.
  • Gather and analyze data related to compensation claims.
  • Communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, and external agencies regarding claims processing.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation to support claims processing.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • For GS-07: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • For GS-05: At least three years of general experience, including one year of experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
