About the position

The Human Resources Specialist - HR Payroll Administrator at Baruch College is responsible for managing payroll actions related to salary adjustments, promotions, and compliance with civil service regulations. This role involves coordinating payroll processes, ensuring data integrity, and providing support to employees regarding payroll inquiries. The position also includes assisting the HR Payroll Manager with special projects and audits, while maintaining a high level of customer service within the college community.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the coordination of overall payroll process; review and interpret contractual agreements and Payroll Bulletins.
  • Utilize systems to track and update employee data related to salary increases and level changes.
  • Ensure compliance with civil service contractual rules and regulations; serve as a resource for staff inquiries.
  • Responsible for CUNYfirst data entries for civil service and classified managerial staff; perform data audits to ensure integrity.
  • Advise employees and managers on HR policies and guidelines; provide customer service support.
  • Serve as backup to the HR Payroll Manager.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant labor laws and regulations.
  • Ensure confidentiality of employee information.
  • Provide ongoing support for payroll inquiries and resolve related issues.
  • Conduct detailed analysis and audits to implement Collective Bargaining Agreements accurately.
  • Assist the HR Payroll Manager with special projects and audits related to payroll and time and leave management.
  • May supervise support staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and four years of related experience required.
  • Knowledge of CUNY Civil Service contracts preferred.
  • Four years of Human Resources experience in higher education preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems such as PeopleSoft preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of federal, state, and city payroll laws and regulations preferred.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills required.
  • Proficiency in PeopleSoft, electronic timekeeping systems, and Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with demanding deadlines required.
