About the position

The Human Resource Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of administrative HR-related duties, focusing on employee recruitment, onboarding, file maintenance, employee relations, training, and policy implementation. This role is essential in ensuring compliance with employment laws and maintaining high standards of confidentiality regarding employee records.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and update recruitment plan
  • Prepare and ensure accurate job postings and job requisitions
  • Establish and maintain external recruiting sources
  • Assist applicants with completing the application process
  • Coordinate and/or conduct interviews with job candidates
  • Ensure employee onboarding process is completed
  • Complete references and background checks in accordance with company and state regulations
  • Ensure compliance with USCIS Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification
  • Perform HRIS data entry and audits of employee data to ensure HRIS data integrity
  • Conduct and/or assist with new-employee orientation
  • Maintain high standards of confidentiality of all employee records and information
  • Ensure compliance with ongoing personnel file maintenance
  • File documents into appropriate employee files
  • Ensure compliance with terminated employee files
  • Assist employees and supervisors with basic interpretation of HR policies and procedures
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and labor postings regulations
  • Monitor and coordinate FMLA and LOA processes
  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention
  • Ensure compliance with employee performance goals and annual evaluations
  • Assist in employee relations and dispute resolution process
  • Provide guidance and support in reviewing employee data for corrective action/termination requests
  • Respond to unemployment claims and participate in unemployment hearings
  • Provide guidance and support with HR related investigations
  • Ensure company benefits are communicated with employees
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment communications and election process
  • Assist with benefits changes due to status changes and qualifying events
  • Perform customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions
  • Participate in administrative team meetings
  • Assist with and/or provide annual HR-related training to the workforce
  • Maintain and monitor workers' compensation case files; follow-up on open cases
  • Partner with Office Coordinator or designee to ensure payroll compliance
  • Maintain and coordinate employee retention and recognition programs

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Human Resources or related field preferred or two years of relevant experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and written) with all levels of personnel, internal and external to the company
  • Experience in managing systems, processes, and people
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Capable of working responsibly with highly confidential information
  • Experienced user with MS Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Must meet all agency requirements for pre-employment as required by ResCare and/or State regulations
  • Valid driver's license from state of residence with a satisfactory driving record as defined by ResCare's vehicle policy and/or liability insurance carrier (as applicable per program requirements)
