About the position

The Human Resources Specialist (Employee Development Specialist) position at the Department of Justice focuses on fostering a humane and secure environment for corrections professionals. The role is essential in preparing individuals for successful reentry into communities by ensuring that all employees receive necessary training and career enhancement opportunities. The specialist will work closely with department heads and training coaches to develop and implement effective training programs, while also maintaining compliance with mandatory training standards and accreditation requirements.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and implement local training for employees.
• Ensure all employees receive required and career enhancement training.
• Work with department heads to develop adequate training plans for probationary and seasoned staff.
• Assist in the instruction of trainees enrolled in institution training courses.
• Collaborate with Training Coaches and Certified Instructors to prepare for local trainings.
• Manage the institution's career development program and Staff Mentoring Program.
• Track mandatory training compliance to meet standards and maintain accreditation.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Education: GL-07 requires one full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement; GL-09 requires a Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education.
• Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service for both GL-07 and GL-09.
