About the position

The position is located in the Human Resources Office of a Bureau of Prisons (BOP) federal correctional facility. It focuses on administering and implementing human resource programs to ensure public safety and prepare individuals for successful reentry into communities. The role involves contributing to staffing functions, employee relations, and maintaining security within the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in administering and implementing human resource programs at the facility.
  • Develop recruitment sources and methods, participate in recruitment activities, and advise prospective applicants.
  • Schedule and conduct interviews, request certificates of eligible candidates, and prepare requests for security clearances.
  • Administer employee relations matters, including the incentive awards program, performance evaluation program, and leave administration program.
  • Provide advisory services to employees and advice on leave regulations.
  • Maintain security of the institution as a primary responsibility.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Education: GL-07 requires one full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement; GL-09 requires a Master's degree or equivalent graduate education or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education.
  • Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service for both GL-07 and GL-09.
  • Knowledge of federal personnel principles, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to HR-related inquiries.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience advising candidates on hiring practices and background security requirements for federal employment.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and practices of federal personnel programs such as staffing and performance management.
