About the position

The Human Resources Specialist position at the Department of Justice is responsible for assisting in the administration and implementation of human resource programs within a Bureau of Prisons federal correctional facility. The role focuses on staffing functions, employee relations, and maintaining security within the institution, ensuring a humane and secure environment for public safety and successful reentry of individuals into communities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in administering and implementing human resource programs at the facility.
• Develop recruitment sources and methods, participate in recruitment activities, and advise prospective applicants.
• Schedule and conduct interviews, request certificates of eligible candidates, and prepare requests for security clearances.
• Administer employee relations matters, including the incentive awards program, performance evaluation program, and leave administration program.
• Provide advisory services to employees, managers, and supervisors on leave regulations and other HR-related inquiries.
• Maintain security of the institution as part of correctional responsibilities.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Education: GL-07 requires one full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement; GL-09 requires a Master's degree or equivalent graduate education or 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education.
• Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service, or a combination of education and experience.

• Experience advising candidates on hiring practices and background security requirements.
