About the position

The Human Resources Specialist III position is a vital role within the organization, responsible for executing a variety of human resource functions that are essential to maintaining a productive and compliant workplace. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including employee relations, training, recruitment, affirmative action, and leave of absence management. The specialist will perform routine tasks necessary for administering and executing human resource programs, which include compensation, benefits, and leave management, as well as handling disciplinary matters, disputes, and investigations. In this role, the specialist will be the point of contact for employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, ensuring that all communications are handled with professionalism and confidentiality. The position also involves conducting employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations, which require a strong understanding of employment-related laws and regulations to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local laws. The specialist will prepare and process sensitive records, documents, and correspondence, ensuring that all materials are handled with care and accuracy. Additionally, the Human Resources Specialist III will be responsible for screening applicants, coordinating testing, scheduling interviews, administering drug tests, and conducting new hire orientations. Maintaining up-to-date employee personnel files and records is crucial to ensure compliance with governing agencies. The specialist will also assist in the administration and tracking of the Affirmative Action Plan (AAP) and will be involved in managing unemployment claims and participating in hearings as necessary. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including compensation, benefits, and leave management.
  • Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors.
  • Conduct employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; review policies and practices to ensure compliance.
  • Prepare and process records, documents, correspondence, and other materials of a sensitive nature.
  • Screen applicants, coordinate testing, schedule interviews, administer drug tests, and conduct new/rehire in-processing.
  • Update and maintain employee personnel files and records to ensure completeness and compliance with governing agencies.
  • Maintain knowledge of current issues, company policies, and laws related to employment.
  • Update and maintain HR information (HRIS) records and compile reports from the database.
  • Assist in the administration, tracking, and management of the Affirmative Action Plan (AAP).
  • Maintain and process notices of unemployment claims and potential charges promptly and efficiently; participate in unemployment hearings as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of Human Resources experience is desired.
  • A degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is desired.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS and talent management systems.
