About the position

The Human Resources Specialist - Leaves and Benefits Coordinator at The Seattle Public Library is responsible for administering employee leaves, benefits, and wellness programs. This role involves managing various leave provisions, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, and serving as a liaison between the Library and the Seattle Department of Human Resources. The position requires a detail-oriented individual who can handle sensitive information and work collaboratively in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the administration of the Library's leave provisions and policies.
  • Process employee requests for various types of leave, ensuring compliance with laws and policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of leave balances and usage.
  • Coordinate with employees and managers to manage leave status and timelines.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for benefit programs, ensuring timely enrollment and modifications.
  • Coordinate the annual open enrollment process and communicate necessary information to employees.
  • Provide guidance and support to employees regarding leave policies and benefits options.
  • Prepare regular reports on leave balances and trends for HR leadership.
  • Assist in the development and review of company leave policies to ensure compliance with laws.
  • Promote wellness initiatives and employee benefits programs.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree in business, public administration, human resources, or related field is preferred.
  • Three years of professional level work experience in human resources, focusing on benefits and leave administration.
  • Strong understanding of HR policies, benefits, and leave laws.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency with HRIS, payroll software, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Workday from an HR perspective.
  • Experience in a public sector and unionized environment.
  • Experience with disability claims or workers' compensation processes.
