About the position

The Human Resources Specialist - Licensure plays a crucial role in supporting the human resources program within the Amherst County School District. This position is responsible for managing the licensure process for teaching staff, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and maintaining accurate personnel records. The specialist will work closely with teachers, principals, and the Department of Education to facilitate the licensure process and provide administrative support to the HR department.

Responsibilities

  • Processes and monitors teaching license applications, renewals, upgrades, and certification deficiencies.
  • Communicates with teachers, principals, and Department of Education staff regarding licensure matters.
  • Implements monitoring systems for employees in license-dependent positions to ensure proper licensure.
  • Advises staff on licensure regulations and consequences of non-compliance.
  • Manages local, state, and federal reporting accurately and timely.
  • Provides payroll information for pay changes and new hires.
  • Attends training and interprets Virginia Department of Education memos regarding license requirements.
  • Compiles and maintains personnel data and updates employee records management databases.
  • Prepares and files personnel correspondence and reports.
  • Manages employee contracts and stipend assignments.
  • Handles inquiries from other agencies and school divisions.
  • Serves as a receptionist and assists other office staff as needed.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of personnel practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of school division personnel rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of regulations regarding the maintenance of licensure files.
  • Ability to present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to apply established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • An associate's or technical degree with coursework in human resources or a related field.
  • Considerable experience providing administrative support in a human resources office, preferably in an educational institution.
