About the position

The Human Resources Specialist (Military) position at the Department of Defense involves managing personnel actions for military personnel, providing advisory assistance on civilian and military personnel matters, and developing policies related to personnel management. The role requires effective communication and problem-solving skills to address grievances and provide counseling to employees. This position is critical in ensuring compliance with military HR programs and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the Integrated Personnel and Pay System-Army (IPPS-A) to manage various personnel actions.
  • Provide briefings and/or training on current and proposed policies for assigned military personnel action programs.
  • Provide advisory assistance to Headquarters on civilian/military personnel matters.
  • Resolve complaints/grievances from staff within the organization.
  • Provide counseling and resolve issues for subordinate employees.
  • Develop and implement civilian and military personnel policies and plans.
  • Supervise subordinates within the department.
  • Analyze changes to TOE, TDA, Army doctrine, material, training, and evaluation.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience in military HR programs managing personnel actions such as processing discharges, transfers, and promotions.
  • Experience providing guidance on military personnel matters and special programs like SHARP.
  • Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education in a relevant field.
