About the position

The Human Resources Specialist at the Department of Defense plays a crucial role in developing and managing the civilian personnel policies and procedures for the Air Force Academy. This position involves providing strategic guidance to align HR initiatives with the Department of Defense's goals, leading the Civilian Resource Management Program, and participating in various HR special projects. The specialist will also evaluate the effectiveness of the civilian personnel program and recommend improvements, while performing limited supervisory duties.

Responsibilities

  • Develops AF Academy's civilian personnel policy and procedures in alignment with DoD goals.
  • Leads and manages the AF Academy's Civilian Resource Management Program.
  • Conducts and participates in HRM special projects or studies for DoD, AF, USSF, and USAFA.
  • Performs program evaluation of the AF Academy civilian personnel program and recommends enhancements.
  • Supervises a limited number of civilian employees, occupying less than 25% of work time.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • At least one year of specialized experience at the GS-13 level or equivalent, including mastery of federal HR laws and regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of advanced federal HRM principles and analytical methods.
  • Knowledge of Department of Air Force organizational structures and HRM issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Defense Civilian Personnel Management System (DCPDS) and USA Staffing tool.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
