J.E. Shekell, Inc. is seeking a skilled and dedicated Human Resources Specialist and Office Administrator to join our team in Evansville, Indiana. This full-time position is primarily focused on human resources responsibilities, with secondary duties in office administration. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our valued employees. In the human resources capacity, the specialist will manage and support HR needs for unionized field employees, including handling grievances, facilitating negotiations, and ensuring compliance with union agreements. The role also involves overseeing recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding processes for both union and non-union employees, maintaining accurate employee records, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and company policies. Additionally, the specialist will assist in the development and implementation of performance management processes, administer employee benefits, and ensure that all HR functions align with the company's goals. On the office administration side, the specialist will oversee the procurement, distribution, and management of company-issued technology, manage general office operations, and provide HR support to administrative personnel. This dual-role position is essential for fostering a cohesive and efficient working environment, ensuring that both HR and office administration functions are executed effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support HR needs for unionized field employees, including handling grievances and facilitating negotiations.
  • Oversee recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding processes for both union and non-union employees.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and ensure compliance with employment laws, union regulations, and company policies.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of performance management processes, including evaluations and disciplinary actions.
  • Administer employee benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, and other programs.
  • Oversee procurement, distribution, and management of company-issued cellphones, tablets, and related equipment.
  • Manage office operations including ordering supplies, coordinating maintenance, and ensuring smooth day-to-day functioning.
  • Provide HR support and general assistance to administrative staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred but not required).
  • Minimum of 3 years of HR experience, with experience managing union employees preferred.
  • Experience in office administration is also desirable.
  • Strong understanding of employment laws and union regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing union employees preferred.
  • Experience in office administration is also desirable.
